Although I do have a sweet tooth, I've never been one of those people that enjoys donuts, coffee cake, and other sweet items for breakfast. I even have a problem with cereal and oatmeal. I would much rather have a bowl of grits, or a hash brown or a bit of scrambled eggs.
However, fresh fruit seems to agree with me in the morning. I especially like fresh fruit for breakfast or brunch, if I have just gotten back from an intense cycling or running workout. Something about really cold fruit hits the spot. My favorites are watermelon, pineapple and grapes.
Hearty Breakfast Foods
Some mornings, I even prefer to have non-traditional breakfast foods for breakfast. Today I made some homemade guacamole as I was waiting to drive my daughter to her bus stop. So I'm having guacamole with organic blue corn chips for breakfast right now. Interesting, but it works for me. Some days I will have dinner leftovers for breakfast, such as eggplant Parmesan, or a piece of pizza.
Unfortunately, not having an appetite for sweet foods in the morning, doesn't mean I don't like sweet food. I will often eat a donut for an afternoon snack, or have a bowl of cereal at dinner time. Weird cravings or something. I wish I didn't like sweet foods at all, I'd probably be a lot thinner.
